Case Study: Kundakala

What is the purpose of the social business?

  • To offer support to women from minority ethnic communities, by equipping them with valuable skills and helping create an alternative/supplementary source of income for them and their families

Even pre-pandemic there were a lot of issues for ethnic minority women: they were in debt, they had the cultural issues that sometimes prevented them from working, and the interventions that were offered to them were not in line with their cultural thinking. Things got even worse during the pandemic. So, I wanted to offer them interventions that are in line with their cultural rules or the restrictions that they have. Acknowledging those restrictions and not judging them in any way…

Outcomes

What were they hoping to get out of their Connecting with Purpose session?

  • Wanted some advice about marketing, hoping for a couple of ideas, and to hear whether tapping into corporate CSR would be a good way of securing funding for their workshops

Take-aways from the session

  • The session helped the social business to Become more confident about their social enterprise and their concept

[The Connecting with Purpose session] came at the right time for me; it also gave me the confidence. The fact that I went in there and ten or fifteen people, from a bank, really thought my idea had wings, that gave me a lot of confidence.

  • Eliminate some funding options (CSR) as unlikely to succeed and come up with alternative solutions (grant funding) instead
